Theodore was moral, conservative, and had a great deal of self-control. He didn't care for public acclaim or seek it out. He went to the Madison Square Presbyterian Church regularly, and belonged to the Union League Club and the Century Association. He served on charitable boards, raised money for charity, and was a good husband and father. He was athletic and handsome. He was intelligent, enjoyed reading books, and had a great interest in his children.
