The individuals feels like they are being strangled or suffocated. This is because air gets trapped inside the body and the individual is unable to breathe normally. The whole body is involved in the attack as the brain stem swells and the lungs, endocrine system, and both sides of the brain are affected. The attack starts with a tightening of the chest and a dry cough. Breathing starts to get more difficult and a wheeze begins. Soon, the child is fighting for breath.
