Life in prison is a big adjustment for Steve, and had a major impact on the way he feels about himself .
Steve writes in a notebook that the prison authorities allow him to keep. He describes how his looks have changed, the terrible violence in prison, and that he must live with fear every moment...... and when he feels safe enough, he cries. He hates his environment, fears his environment, and desperately needs to get out of it.
