In the Novel Mockingbird by Erskind, why does Caitlyn dislike recesses at school?

Recess is tough on Caitlyn because it is so social. Her classmates don't want to be friends with her due to her 'weirdness. ' Her counselor eventually arranges for her to have recess with the younger kids.
