The story is written in a straight-forward style and is divided between dialogue and narrative. Generally, the narrative is used to keep the story moving. In some cases, the narratives describe memories. This is seen with Jim as he remembers the attack of the grizzly bear and his life with the Indians. Some readers may find the dialogue difficult to understand.
