Who is Captain Peleg from Moby Dick and what is their importance?

Peleg is a retired sailor and former captain of the Pequod who owns the ship along with Bildad. Peleg isn't a main character but he is the first to see Ahab's unsettling obsession. He compares Ahab the legendary horrid Biblical king of the same name.
