ch 8
While at the river, Hiram sees Emmett and three others. Emmet acts as if he and Hiram are friends. When Hiram tells Emmett that his lunch has made him drowsy, Emmett asks if there is any left. Although Emmett's cousins try to persuade him to leave the area before R.C. wakes up, Emmett wants to sit by the river and eat with Hiram. As Ironically, as soon as Emmett is on dry ground and about to take the lunch bag, R.C. wakes up. Emmett tries to explain that Hiram promised him the lunch, but R.C. becomes furious and pushes Emmett to the ground. R.C. then takes a fish, cuts out its guts and holds it over Emmett's face until Emmett chokes for air, allowing R.C. to shove the guts in Emmett's mouth. The entire time, Hiram and Emmett's cousins stand there powerless to stop R.C. As Emmett is carried away by the cousins, Hiram wants to say something but he cannot, as he is to ashamed of himself for allowing this to happen.
