In the novel, Mission to Kala, there are many themes the become evident in the reading. First, there is the typical coming of age theme tory for Jean Medza. But there is also the whole 'not fitting in' theme (fish out of water) theme that is also prevalent. Additionally, there is the theme of appearances not being what they seem. Overall, the grand theme that comes out of the novel is the extensive harm that can come to the African mind due to Western educational policies and methodologies.
