Freedom is another theme in the book. Freedom can take many forms, from the freedom of movement to speaking freely. While working for Microsoft, Michael must respond to the demands of his boss and does so up to a point. He then exercises his freedom to leave the corporation and start his own company. By exercising his freedom, he also takes on the insecurity and responsibility that goes along with the choice. His new company could have easily failed had the product not been saleable or had the economy taken a sharp downturn.
