What is the setting of Mercy by Jodi Picoult?

The setting of this novel is the Massachusetts town of Wheelock. Wheelock is a small town that was settled by the clan members of the Scotland village of Carrymuir. A hundred years before the opening of this book, the chief of the McDonald clan smuggled his clan out of Carrymuir in order to protect them from the invading English.
