The narrator is shocked when she is on her way to her editor R's office and a large-scale raid occurs at a strip mall. Three trucks pull up and armed men run into the building, emerging with four prisoners, one of whom is a young girl barely in her teens. The element of the raid that shocks the narrator is that it is the middle of the day in the middle of town, while on every other occasion that she knows of, raids have taken place at night.
