How does the author use foreshadowing in Memories, Dreams, Reflections?

In Chapter One, the cathedral is an object that held a "double" existence not only Jung's dream world but also in real life. He had visited a cathedral in the waking world, which then appeared to him in a dream where he had an offensive and frightening nightmare of that very cathedral being inundated with feces from above.

Later in his life he found that while he retained interest in God and theology, he tended to do better when he did not attend church, which may have been foreshadowed by that dream.
