Who is Thomas Cambridge from Wieland; and Memoirs of Carwin the Biloquist and what is their importance?

Thomas Cambridge is Clara's uncle. He treats her like a daughter and becomes a true father figure during the horrific events of "Wieland." Cambridge nurses her back to health from a serious illness and later becomes her literal savior, when he rescues her from a burning house.
