Ulrich does not use foreshadowing in the biography, A Midwife's Tale: The Life of Martha Ballard, Based on Her Diary, 1785-1812.

Ballard's actual diary however, describes the tension between herself and Dr. Comby in a way that foreshadows the negative relationships between natural healing and medicine.
