Marmee decides to take Mmarch's care at the hospital into her own hands. She works quickly, stripping his bed and doing her best to clean his body, but she has no supplies. When she attempts to acquire a bowl and sponge from the rude nurse, she is once again greeted with shouts as the nurse reminds her that March is not the only sick man in the hospital. The women argue back and forth, and Marmee feels rage pounding behind her eyes. Before she can stop herself, Marmee throws March's soup in the nurse's face before an orderly whisks her away.
