What does Maniac learn about Grayson's past in Chapter 27?

In Chapter 27, Maniac learns that Grayson’s parents were alcoholics, and that he had been put into special classes where he spent his time cutting paper and playing games rather than learning to read. At the age of 15, Grayson ran away to play ball in Bluefield, and consequently, he never finished school.
