How is the village of Poitou described in the novel, The Man in the Iron Mask?

Poitou is described as an area covered with many marshes, rivers and luxuriant woods. The people that inhabit the area are fishermen who live in beautiful reed houses that are built on rafts. They live a life of plentiful produce and perfect security.
