One of the biggest themes that is reinforced throughout the entire series is that of family and family bonds. Two of the characters (Jenna and Boy 412) aren't with their original familes at the beginning of the story. This leaves the door open for the reinforcement and definition of 'family'. The message is that being blood related is NOT what constitutes the feelings of family.
