Why does Shakespeare choose to begin the play with the 3 witches? How does this choice create mystery, tension, or suspense?

Shakespeare knew his Elizabethan audience would be intreagued by the supernatural. Most people believed in black magic so Shakespeare was able to use the scene as a narrative hook to attract the audience and invest in his story.
