betrayal and downfall
Betrayal is an important part of the play because that is how the changes in power occur. Macbeth is rewarded for his loyalty to the king while the Thane of Cawdor is stripped of his title because of his betrayal. Betrayal however brings its own fate. Macbeth's taste of power drives him to betray more of his once close allies like Banquo and Macduff, In the end Macbeth is left with no friends: only enemies.
