EXPLAIN THIS QUOTE "A little water will wash away the evidence of our guilt. It’s so simple!”

This is ironic. Lady Macbeth implores her husband to clean his bloody murdering hands. she says that washing the blood away will clear them of guilt. Really cleaning up just washes away the blood but it doesn't do anything for their guilty conscience.
