Much of the narrative is a metaphor for finding one's niche. If there is anything that emerges from the book, "Look Me in the Eye," that everyone has a place where he belongs. However, where that place is is not always readily apparent. John Robison who struggled with Asperger's Syndrome his whole life found a unique path, a circuitous route that finally led to the place where he belonged. While his condition presented many barriers to success, John was also blessed in that he was gifted with a genius for math and electronics.
