How does Will describe the sadness of losing someone you love in the opening pages of the novel, Long Way Down?

Will describes the sadness of losing someone you love to waking up and having someone forcibly pull a molar tooth out of the back of your mouth. He says the worst part of this is the tongue going back to the missing space over and over even though you know it is not there any more.
