Mr. Brooke takes a liking to Meg, and only returns one of her gloves. He keeps one, showing that he likes her. Fred Vaughn cheats at croquet and denies it, making Jo angry. That shows a major character flaw in Fred. However, he admits to it later, during a game of truth, and everyone forgives him. Laurie, also during a game of truth, says that he thinks Meg is the prettiest, but he likes Jo the best. That shows that he is both honest and caring toward the girls.
