Who do Stevie, Chip, and Susan Carol find in the hotel room when they enter in Chapter 17? What do they learn?

When they enter the room, they see Whiting, Feeley's assistant, and, of course, Dean Wojenski. The dean confirms the blackmailing plot is his and says Jurgenson was just a lead to throw Chip, Stevie and Susan Carol off the trail. The dean says he's going to hold the kids hostage until after the game to ensure Chip does what he's supposed to do to throw the game.
