In terms of perspective, the memoir is told from the first-person perspective of narrator Claudia Hernández. As it is a memoir, the story’s perspective is one divided between that of the adult writer Hernández and the represented child-version of Hernández, Claudia. Whereas Claudia’s speaking voice is childlike, constantly questioning her surroundings, the voice of the mature author looking back on her childhood and upon her impressions of the world as a child is a slightly different one.
