Why does Yuichi drink so much at his dinner with Mikage?

Yuichi drinks too much at dinner because he is depressed. He loses his mother and is trying to deal with his own feelings for Mikage. When Yuichi is drunk, he reveals that his drinking becomes a constant in his life, as a way of coping with his problems.
