Nurse Stevens is astonished, but her priority is seeing him cured.

Her feelings about his being a child aren't so much about his age, but rather, his fear. He is afraid of the hospital, and he acts as if he's never seen any type of modern medicine. He also speaks as if he is from a different time and place. Nurse Steven's cares for him as if he is an infant, doing everything she can to ease his fears... she even sings him lullabies.
