King Lear What are the motifs in King Lear by William Shakespeare? Asked by bookragstutor on 20 Aug 04:38 Last updated by Cat on 15 Apr 04:44
Madness is a motif in this play. The Fool who offers Lear wise council is seen as a mad man. Lear's own madness represents the increasing chaos of his kingdom. Even Edgar, seen as insane, helps Lear defeat Edmund in the end.
