Roosevelt was not a man of the people. He was born into wealth and privilege and had never done hard labor. His hobbies were collecting stamps and shooting birds that he stuffed and displayed. His father died when Roosevelt was 18 and left him an inheritance that allowed Roosevelt to live a life of luxury. His wealth made him stuffy and elitist.
