At the end of Chapter 8, what happened in Bastogne?

Gen. Tony McAulifee was assigned to hold the town of Bastogne. While he and his men were doing their best to hold the town, four Germans came and asked the men to surrender. A letter was typed for the Germans to give to their commander telling them that under no circumstances would the Americans surrender.
