Slocum seemed sad when it came time to say goodbye to the islands. Still, the author would leave the area with fond memories. "Long before dark Keeling Cocos, with its thousand souls, as sinless in their lives as perhaps it is possible for frail mortals to be, was left out of sight, astern." (Chapter 16, Page 221)
