The Spray left Port Tamar in early March and headed toward Cape Pillar. Slocum was disappointed once again when his hopes for fair weather were dashed. The sloop was caught in the middle of yet another storm. Despite waiting out the storm, Slocum was forced to alter his route, steering the Spray toward Cape Horn.
