Travels with Charley: In Search of America by John Steinbeck is a story about Steinbeck's travel across America in the fall of 1960. He is accompanied by his dog, charley. This story is a wonderful tapestry of American culture during that time and era, and he learns something meaningful in each state that he visits, as well as interesting people. In the end, once back in New York he realizes that each journey is as unique as the nation called America.
