How does the author use foreshadowing in Jazz?

In Chapter One, Violet's growing affection for Dorcas, and her urge to trim the dead girl's hair, foreshadows her growing relationship with Felice. The narrator's descriptions of close and loving elderly couples, also serves to foreshadow Joe and Violet's relationship.
