How is the character of Edward Constable described in Chapter 6? What does he bring to Jack?

Edward Constable is the other footman in Mr. Buckle’s household. He is still in grief because his former fellow footman killed himself in the very room where Jack is to stay. In Chapter 6, he brings Jack Mr. Pope’s old clothing for the position of footman.
