How have Mr. Butler’s perceptions of Jack changed in Chapter 28?

Mr. Butler has not lost his resolve to keep Jack in his household, but his fear of Jack no longer allows him sleep at night. Instead, Mr. Butler sits awake and frightened in his study, paranoid that at any moment the criminal might come in and attack him.
