How does the author use foreshadowing in J. B.?

In the first scene, JB's reference to flowers is actually a reference to his and Sarah's children, suggesting that she loves them all equally. The irony of this reference, of course, is that over the next few scenes Sarah's children will all be taken from her. This reference also foreshadows the beginning of the next scene and the final scene of the play.
