In Chapter 21, why does Atlas give Lily a piggyback ride?

On the ride home from the wedding, Lily took her shoes off in the car. When they arrive at her apartment, she struggles to get her shoes back on. Atlas doubts she wants to walk barefoot on the parking garage floor, so he offers to give her a piggyback ride.
