What sports does Lance excel in as a child and teenager?

Lance grows up in Richardson and Plano, suburbs of Dallas, Texas. At times he finds it difficult to fit in. Most of his peers seem to have a deep, almost fanatical passion for football. Lance tries the sport, but quickly concludes it's not for him. At times he feels like a misfit in his community, unable to comprehend the fervor behind football.
