How does Lance's outlook change when he learns he has tumors in his brain?

When doctors discover that Lance has tumors in his brain, things obviously go from bad to worse. Lance says knowing that cancer is growing in his brain makes the entire ordeal more personal and so he decides to get personal back. He talks to the cancer, telling it that it chose the wrong person to mess with. He vows to defeat it. His outlook becomes that of a fierce, determined fighter.
