First, Ishi values his relationship with the girl that he meets in the arroyo because she reminds him of Tushi. Second, she is as much a part of the forest as any of the other animals and knows a lot about the plants and creatures there, so Ishi learns from her. She accepts Ishi as if he were just another part of the forest, and so their interactions are based on their curiosity and love for nature. Like Maliwal, she also follows Ishi and looks up to him as an elder.
