David’s family are not Muslim, they are Jewish, so they are not affected. David’s mother is a refugee from Yemen, and she has brown skin, her father is an Ashkenazi Jew who works for the State Department. Layla says that they could have been affected, but were spared because they are not Muslim. David sympathizes with her, and resolves to do whatever he can.
