How does Jake engineer a meeting between Layla and David, and how does the visit go?

Jake smuggles David into the camp under a tarp. Jake leads Layla to a red tool shed where they embrace and talk briefly. The visit is disastrous for Layla, as David suggests that she and her parents get preferential treatment by helping the government, as translators, but Layla refuses to collaborate with their oppressors and she turns around and leaves.
