Why does Joelle try to overdose at Molly's party?

Joelle tries to overdose on cocaine in the bathroom at her friend Molly's party. Joelle seems depressed and stuck in the past. She cannot get over the memories she has. She is also depressed by the way she looks. She considers looking at her face in the mirror but decides against it.
