What metaphors are used in Infinite Jest: A Novel by David Foster Wallace?

The "orbit" described on p. 521 as a metaphor for interacting with Avril Incandenza ties in with the second scene in the novel, when her son and main character, Hal Incandenza, eats some mold that looks like it might be fatal.
