What kind of relationship do Mario and Hal have?

Mario and Hal appear to have a good relationship. Mario is older than Hal, though he seems much younger. He is deformed and very different from both of his athletic brothers. Mario uses these differences to his own advantage though. He looks to Hal for guidance and reassurance. Hal seems to have the ability to soothe some of Mario's fears, and Mario appears to appreciate his attempts.
