Who is Agent Christoph Brüder from the novel, Inferno?

Agent Christoph Brüder is the man in charge of the SRS team attempting to get in touch with Langdon. Most notable about Brüder is the transformation his character makes through the course of the novel. At the beginning of the story he is described as being a man with ice-cold eyes who acts more like an animal than a man.

By the end of the novel, the reader understands that Brüder has acted the part of the strict military leader because he knew how serious the problem was that the world was facing. He desperately wanted to bring the situation to a close but does not understand why Langdon is running from him.
