Why is Sam glad that “Ricci” won the big boxing match? What reservations does Sam have about Ricci winning the boxing match?

Ricci is white so Sam is glad he won over a colored man. Ricci is also Italian which Sam doesn't respect but at least, in Sam's eyes, he is white.
