Who is Euclid from Ideas and Opinions and what is their importance?

Euclid was a fourth to third B.C.E.-century Greek mathematician. Einstein hailed Euclid's principles of geometry as a triumph of reasoning, which gave him the intellectual confidence for further achievements. Euclidean geometry and Newtonian mechanics, however, have both been abandoned to allow for a logically complete system.
